Getting Back Into Your Routine

There’s nothing better than waking up on a summer morning and realizing you have no obligations, no school work, no class to rush to. Just the hurry to reach the peak UV index in order to get the best tan. Those are the best kind of days, when there is no strict routine. Only doing what you want, when you want. However, sometimes I wish I had a tight schedule year round. Being without a routine for so long has taught me that I really am nothing without it. Knowing exactly where I need to be, when I need to be there, and everything I must complete by a certain time. I find these simple yet tedious concepts get me through my days.

Thinking about going back to school, and that I will now have an every day routine somehow excites me. Yes, I know thinking about school and counting down the days can seem weird, but having that routine makes me feel more productive, and active. It was not easy to get back into this routine, and I still find myself unadjusted. It takes time to go from freedom to back-to-back classes, late night studying, and early mornings. You know what they say, “practice makes perfect”, and while in this case that is completely true. The more you are into your routine, and the more you repeat what you need to do, the easier it will be to adjust.

While it may be stressful and overwhelming to flip back into a crazy schedule, there are ways that this can slowly become natural again.

  1. Making check lists of everything that needs to get done, and when it needs to be completed is super helpful.

The feeling of scripting a check mark next to all those undeniable tasks is indescribable.

  1. Another way to naturally get back into your routine is to have a planner, or calendar.

Visually seeing what your upcoming weeks look like can help you to spread out homework, tests, or other errands that have to get done. When you know what you have to do you can plan your day around those tasks, and create a routine that allows you to have all those activities finished on time, while remaining in your daily routine.

As always, taking time for yourself is most important. Going from summer into a busy schedule is a drastic difference, and it will take time to feel completely settled once again. Taking small naps or deep breaths can help alleviate the stress or anxiety over this change in daily life. I believe in you. It may seem like an exhausting, confusing, or frustrated feeling right now, but soon this back to school routine will become second nature. Patience and practice are key.
